12/12/2018-We find ourselves during this holiday season in a bittersweet moment. We are winding down the tenure of our beloved "Commish", Dave Cook. Dave will retire his post at the end of this month after 10 fun years. I will miss Dave! We played golf together almost 3 times a week for the past few years. I've always enjoyed every conversation I had with Dave. I always wanted to play golf with Dave because I knew it would be a most enjoyable day. Many a time I didn't care about the golf. I always knew I would get a vivid overview on every book he read and/or was reading. One time he loaned me a book on Mohammed Ali and said "you've got to read this book". I thought I would get some insight on Parkinsons because Mohammed Ali had it and I currently have it. I thought that Dave was awesome for recommending this book and so the following morning I began my journey. For several weeks, I vividly read the hardback, page after page. From his first fight, to his title bouts, to even his womanizing, I read and read. There may have been a sentence here or there about the disease, but nothing of substance. Before I knew it, the book was finished and I was left with emptiness. The next day I told Dave, there was not much in that book on how Ali dealt with his Parkinsons. Dave then proceeded to tell me "Oh no there wasn't, but he was quite the womanizer". I guess I should have asked first. I then learned that Dave and I look at things a little differently. He never talked politics. So, we never had those discussions. But we always found a lot to talk about. I mostly did the listening because I learned along time ago that you don't learn much if you don't listen. Little did I know that, I believe, that Dave was, in a way, grooming me to take over his duties of running the golf group. At first I hesitated but then I realized I would be honored to try and fill Dave's shoes. So, that is where we are at today. Starting January 1st, 2019, I begin my tenure as the new President of the newly named "Dell Urich Golf Club". Because Dave and I look at things a little differently, our newly formed AGA approved golf club, will be run a little differently. But, there will be a lot of what I learned from Dave, put into this journey. Here's hoping I can live up to your standards Dave. God Bless you on all your future endeavors!
